Music Industry Marketing

I want this post to make you rich so that one day you will consider working with me.

The most important part of any music career is the music.

You need to work on your craft to become the best at what you do, but you already know that.

In fact, you’ve been working on your music for some time now and you know you sound amazing, now you need the people to listen.

I can’t teach you how to sing or play guitar, but hopefully I can give you some good tips on marketing your music career.

My name is Scott and I help business owners grow their businesses by outsourcing their copywriting, advertising, content creation, and more.

I’ve recently taken on a client who is an edm producer and singer so I’ve learned a thing or two about marketing in the music industry.

(Shout out to my boy Kenan Belzner)

I am also talking to another local artist about working together so I figured I’d rather hone in my focus on the music industry rather than diversifying my client pool.

Anyways, here is a general marketing plan I would recommend for any singer, songwriter, band, producer, and musician who doesn’t have one yet:

Social Media

You might love posting on social media or you might hate it. The truth is, if you want to be seen you need to use it. People who like your music will want to see who you are off stage and stay up to date on show dates and special offers.

You’ll want to post similar content on multiple platforms for the best audience growth but start with one or two. Post cool shit as often as possible!

Make a schedule and stick to it!

Ex:

Youtube

  • Monday: Post a Youtube video.
  • Tuesday: Make 5 clips from the Youtube video to post throughout the week on Instagram and Tiktok.
  • Wednesday: Writing and Planning for next video.
  • Thursday: Filming (if needed) and editing.
  • Friday: Live Stream
  • Saturday/Sunday: Rest and do last minute editing

If you forget this whole schedule and just remember: “post a Youtube video on Monday”, you will still be ahead of 95% of artists out there.

Spotify

If your music isn’t on Spotify you are missing out big time.

I posted a poll on Instagram and 82% of my followers who cared to answer said they find new music on Spotify.

Once you have all your music up on Spotify make sure to post the link in all your social media accounts and on your website so people can find you.

You can find new listeners on Spotify by being added to playlists.

Make your own playlists with your music along with some of the artists that inspired you or have a similar vibe to the songs you are trying to promote.

You can also reach out to playlist curators directly and ask them to add your song to their playlist.

I use a marketing tool called PlaylistSupply to find email lists of playlist curators in specific niches.

Call-to-Action

Once your content is getting some attention, you need to give your audience something to do.

You can tell them to find you on Spotify, buy tickets to your show, or download the free beat you just posted.

Ask them a question or give them something to engage with.

Have fun with it and don’t take yourself too seriously, nobody else does!

Here’s my call-to-action for you : listen to Kenan Belzner’s new track: Transcendence on Spotify!
