Tree planting mitigates climate change by absorbing CO2 from the atmosphere.
Trees provide important food and shelter resources for local wildlife.
Trees provide value for the landowner by producing fruit, nuts, sap, and timber.
When trees are cut down, a large part of the C02 from the trunk is stored longterm in furniture and buildings.

Trees are still the best mechanism for carbon sequestration that we have (other than maybe tall grasses) and the added benefits to us and the wildlife makes tree planting a no brainer.

Why Saplings Rule and Adult Trees Drool

Planting saplings is a much more efficient use of time and resources than planting adult trees.

I once personally planted 1300 saplings in one day.

The most adult trees I’ve been able to plant in a day is 10 and that was a two man job. Those trees were only 6 ft but a lot of the people who call me are asking for much taller trees than that too!

I can fit 100 saplings in a grocery bag.

100 6 footers on the other had will fill my truck bed 10 times and seriously wear down the springs on my Tacoma.

Adult trees generally take longer to get established and use much more water than saplings in their first season. That isn’t even considering the many years they spent getting watered and fertilized and moved around at the nursery.

Adult trees use up so much carbon actually getting to someone’s garden that some of them will never actually reach carbon neutrality in their lifetime.

Saplings planted in large enough numbers take very few resources and can achieve carbon negativity very quickly.
